Hey there! My name is Val Wichert and welcome to 1890 Homestead!

A little bit about me....my Mennonite upbringing and heritage gave me a love for baking, homesteading & making my own products.

Seeing the love and care my Grandma Wagler put into every dish she made inspired me to make my own food someday. I have so many memories of being in the kitchen watching her while she poured herself into the food she was making - and nobody ever made it better. There was nothing flashy about it, just high quality food made from scratch with simple ingredients and always done the right way.

Thanks to her I am passionate about making food that is not only delicious, but also free from processed and unnecessary ingredients. It makes me feel so good to make food for my family that I know is good for them.

A couple years ago I decided to start sharing my passion for these things on social media - people loved it!! Before I knew it, people were asking for recipes, tips and whether they could order products from me (along with LOTS of questions about Mennonite & Amish culture, which I love answering!). It has only continued to grow and evolve into what 1890 Homestead is today!

Thanks so much for stopping in and supporting me! I hope you feel inspired to try your own hand at baking healthy foods, homesteading & find your own hobbies and passions.

God bless!
-Val
